WASHINGTON – Congress member Ron Kind, D-Wis., signed on as co-sponsor of a bill to empower the Environmental Protection Agency to help communities endangered by toxic chemicals. Kind said the proposed PFAS Action Act would make it easier for the EPA to declare hotspots as “toxic” and help affected people find safe drinking water. There are 26 co-sponsors. “We know PFAS is a carcinogenic element that does not disappear on its own,” Kind said. “So we need to stop using it first of all and make sure that we’re doing enough testing so we know who might be exposed and then have some good solution in people’s lives to protect their health.” The bill’s procedural next step is House committees. Approval is possible this year, this year, Kind said.
