WINONA, Minn. – Susan Jane Day, 91, of Winona, who championed the cause of female equity in sports during a long career at Winona State University, died at Callista Court nursing home. She taught physical education in the Winona schools from 1952 to 1957. She then began a 30-year at Winona State. She was a department chair, women’s athletic director, and the university’s assistant academic vice president. She held a degree Wisconsin State University-LaCrosse and a master’s from Winona State. She did advanced studies at the University of Colorado and New York University. She was on the board of directors at Westfield Golf Club as well as board president. She was active in the Winona YMCA and River Trails Girl Scout Council.
