ROCHESTER, Minn. – Enrollment at the University of Minnesota-Rochester has reached a symbolically important 1,000, according to a preliminary tally for fall semester. Chancellor Lori Carrell said the growth was due mostly due to 400 new undergraduates, compared to 200 a year earlier. The UW-Rochester program was begun in 2006, cobbled together from a hodge-podge of earlier programs. For Carrel the 1,000 had been a “bold” goal. She sees more ahead: 1,500 as a “bolder” goal and 2,500 as “boldest.” She noted that the downtown dorm, in the former Double Tree hotel, is at capacity with 400 beds.
