Paddle-wheeler stop signals new river tourism visit

WINONA, Minn. –  When a river cruise ship docks in Winona, typically 100 tourists disembark and walk the streets and take local motor tours, says tourism booster Pat Mutter. There are 22 dockings scheduled thid year. Do the math. “It is just remarkable when you think of 2,000 people walking around the downtown,” Mutter said in a KWNO radio interview. “Spending for tours when they take tours to the museums in the area as well as just going and shopping.” Fare for the whole New Orleans to St. Paul cruise start at $10,000. Mutter was speaking the day that the river boat America made its inaugural visit of the season to Winona. The boat is scheduled to dock one more time July and two times in August.
